Dreaming About Dead Relatives – Spiritual Significance, Interpretation & Meaning

Last Updated on April 1, 2022

There is no one answer to this question as dreams can be interpreted in many different ways.

In some interpretations, dreaming about dead people can signify sadness and the process of grieving.

It could also be interpreted as a message from the subconscious mind about some unresolved issues or problems.

One possibility is that the dream symbolizes our feelings of guilt or dissatisfaction with our life.

The dead person in the dream may represent frustration and disappointment.

Alternatively, seeing your dead loved ones in a dream could be a reminder that Jesus and heaven are real.

The appearance of dead people in dreams can also help one to move forward with life.

Dreams provide a way for us to process difficult emotions and experiences.

They might give us insights into things we’re avoiding or refusing to deal with consciously.

In this sense, dreaming about a deceased loved one can be seen as a sign to start working through the loss and grief you’re experiencing.

Can Dead People Really Visit Us in Our Dreams?

There is no scientific evidence of the afterlife, so it’s difficult to say whether or not the dead can visit us in our dreams.

However, personal experiences tell a different story.

People who have dreamt about deceased loved ones know that these visits seemed very real.

Although it is comforting for some people to think that their deceased loved ones might be visiting them from the afterlife, it’s important to remember that there is no way to know for sure what these dreams mean.

It could be simply mean that the dreamer wants to see their loved one again and dreams are simply representing their thoughts or wishes.

On the other hand, it could also mean that the dreamer is receiving some kind of a valuable message from the other side.

However uncomfortable they may be, dreams about deceased loved ones should not be ignored.

They might offer some insight into our lives or the lives of those we have lost.

Let’s look at the most popular interpretations in detail:

You are Processing Grief

When someone is grieving, they often dream about the deceased loved one because it helps them process and cope with the grief.

Dreams arise when thoughts and feelings buried in our subconscious come to conscious awareness.

In dreams, people are able to fulfill their unfulfilled wishes.

According to Sigmund Freud, “Visitation dreams” are the dreams of people who have recently died.

These dreams can become disturbing or not make sense in terms of why you’re dreaming about a deceased loved one, so find a counselor who specializes in grief counseling or a psychologist who is trained in dream interpretation to help yourself through this stage.

You Have Something that You Need to Work On

  2. I had a dream that my grandmother called me on the phone. I was so happy to hear her voice. In my dreams I was crying over the phone and in complete disbelief that she was calling me. She didn’t sound like herself but she was kind and she stopped me in my words and said that she wants to see me in two days. I immediately woke up with tears all over my face and shaking with fear. I don’t understand what she meant. Am I misunderstanding, I’m scared now and I am in fear of what will happen after the next two days. Any thought? I’m sick to my stomach…

  4. I’m normally not an emotional person, however after last night’s dream I woke up feeling overwhelmed. 2 years ago my partners younger sister passed away in a freak ATV accident a few states away. We couldn’t be there for her funeral, and I just felt so bad over the whole ordeal. Last night she interrupted my dream and appeared as a little girl. She never mentioned her name but it’s like I instantly knew who she was. She reached over and touched my head, when she did that I instantly felt everything she was feeling. Instant sadness at first, followed by hearing her voice telling me that she’s okay, and to tell my spouse not to be sad over her. When she let go of my head I felt a bit disoriented in my dream for several seconds before my regular dream continued…

  5. My grandpa died 27 years ago. He has visited me 3 times so far in the last 3 nights. The first one he was happy and joking. He told me a time and place to meet him. The next night he has been blurry. He tried talking but I couldn’t understand him. Last night he was clear but seemed distressed or concerned.

  6. I have dreams of dead relatives or pets almost on a nightly basis. My parents, grandparents & 2 beloved dogs. Almost all died of cancer. And usually the dreams are at one grandparents house or the other, even if they aren’t in the dream. I’ve had conversations about God in my dreams, all kinds of very deep emotions when I wake up. I don’t understand what it all means and why do often.

  7. This article was very helpful, I practice Wicca and I recently lost my dad to his alcoholism and before his passing we weren’t in great terms due to his drinking. I just had a dream about him and he said “family member was worried we would never make up” and he hugged me and I woke up crying. He’s only been gone for about 2 months and I believe he came in my dream to make things right between us and know that he wasn’t angry at me. He also looked healthy in the dream.

  9. I dreamed that my paternal grandparents were alive. They were divorced years before they died. In the dream my grandma gave me a wedding announcement with a picture on the front of her adult daughter who is also dead. The announcement was telling that my grandparents were getting remarried! I was confused that a picture of my aunt was on the announcement. I was also concerned that my grandparents were getting remarried because in life my grandpa was abusive and drank a lot. In the dream, I took the wedding announcement to my mother and she too was surprised. Mom took the picture of my aunt off the card and said, at least now when I want to talk to her I can just look at the picture.

My father however was trying to get me to pay a bill for him. Told I couldn’t and he was upset and took my car. I had my car payment in my car and was afraid he would find it. When he came back with the car is when I was woke up. Any insight on this

  12. It was a dream of my grandmother in the back of an old Ford truck watching a bearded man I didn’t recognize-trim a tree on Sherman Ave in Coeur d Alene Idaho. I got in the back of the truck with her and The man climbed down the tree and got in and drove us just to the block over and down an alley way. As I tried to speak to her she couldn’t hear nor see me, but I was able to follow her and observe. We stopped at a residence that was painted White in the alley. The man got out and headed inside, and then my grandmother got out of the back of the truck and so I followed. I noticed the home had about three to four cement steps up to the back door- She opened the back door to a mud room or covered porch type area and she removed her shoes. And then there was a second door that led into the home.
The smaller kitchen was directly to my left and the living room was directly to my right and the front door straight ahead.
As she went to the living room and took a seat and began conversing with the gentleman. I tried and tried and tried to talk to her, and get her attention to no avail. I ended up either waking up or not remembering how I got back to present day. But my curiosity was definitely sparked.
I drove downtown to this “house”
It does exist, you can enter from the alley, it looks the same as it did in my dream.. and I feel crazy af wanting to knock and ask them i if f I can come in and “look” around 😂😂🤣✌️. My grandmother played an integral role in my life what I wouldn’t give to talk to her today 🫶🏻❤️
